S2, E4: The Selections That Make Your House a Home
NOTE: Due to dramatic changes in the building industry in 2020 & 2021, we archived season two and recorded updated episodes with current information. Please enjoy this updated episode from Season Four, recorded on October 18, 2021
Design Priorities & Inspiration
The Schapers have worked in the St Louis food industry for most of their lives - from restaurants when they were younger to their wildly successful frozen pizza company, Dogtown Pizza. The design of their kitchen was a top consideration because they enjoy cooking and entertaining friends and family.
Another design priority was creating a warm, welcoming great room. They envisioned a light-filled space with a clear view of the outdoors. They came into the process with some clear ideas of what they hoped to achieve and provided our design team with inspiration photos of the look they hoped to achieve.
At Hibbs Homes, we use an online tool called CoConstruct to clearly communicate with our clients. In the case of the Schapers, Meredith used CoConstruct to share home design photos she'd collected. The photos gave our design team a starting point to work from while we guided their budget and selections process.
Value Engineering Your Home Design
We also had a chance to talk with Lydia Huffman, our interior design partner in Park City, UT, about how you can get the look you want within your budget by value-engineering your home's design. We discuss how different material choices and even the shape of rooms may impact your final budget.
